Webinar Title: “Webinar Series on Basic Computer Animation”

Day 3: 3D Animation Concepts

I. Details of the event/activity

The "Webinar Series on Basic Computer Animation," which I attended on the final day, was identical to the previous one. This is focused on "3D Animation Concepts," which is set on September 23 from 8:00am to 12:00nn. This was organized with assistance from the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology's (NEUST) Training Department and College of Information and Communications Technology. On September 9, 15, and 22 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, there will be a 3-Day Webinar Series. The webinar listed above is hosted by Mr. Angelito "Gel" I. Cunanan Jr., a professor at NEUST-CICT and an MSIT.

II. Reflections on the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings)

As a BSEMC student, this webinar has some bearing on my academics. I already knew the fundamentals of animation, particularly in relation to 3D modeling, so I would say that this webinar is basically a review of what I already learned about 3D animation using Blender. I thought back on my learning experience with Blender as the speaker demonstrated various and unconventional ways to animate using the program. It made me remember the times I had difficulty creating a render or even a model.

The speaker, Sir Gel or Mr. Angelo Cunanan did a great job at thoroughly describing all the options and elements of Blender's user interface. ctrl + e for extrude and other related operations are just a few of the shortcuts and mesh manipulation methods employed. He presented it in an ordered manner. In addition, he made a character model for 3D rigging and added bones to it so that the character could move in various ways, like a walk cycle.

The speaker has in-depth knowledge of animation and digital works. He does this as a hobby, but what motivates me is the breadth of his skills and his enthusiasm for making cartoons while instructing his students.

I'm glad I attended this webinar since I learnt a lot about creating 3D figures, and Mr. Gel encourages questions and successfully responds to each one while working in 3D on Zoom. The speaker makes sure that all of the students' concerns are addressed, and as a result, we learnt a lot about 3D modeling techniques, "the cool thing to do this," he says, as well as modeling shortcuts and how to properly render a 3D model. Before the webinar comes to a close, Mr. Gel gives us students one last encouragement to keep pursuing our love of animation.

III. Reflections on possibilities on implementing some of the webinar input on a practical level (practical application of learnings)

Thanks to this webinar, my enthusiasm for 3D modeling is expanding. The speaker offers several 3D creation tips and methods, and this webinar teaches us how to develop our designing and drawing skills to the next level in order to look more professional rather than aspiring to be an animator instead of a designer or perhaps a combined caliber. I have no comments about the aforementioned webinar because Mr. Gel promised to answer all of our questions, including "What are the shortcut keys?," "What are the fundamentals of modeling?," etc. The speaker provided several 3D creation tips and methods.

IV. Positive feedback (on the event organization)

Getting to know other animators, how they operate, and what they could teach us was a wonderful experience. This webinar succeeded in explaining animation to those who are unfamiliar with it or who are aspiring animators. I hope they offer more webinars and topics in the future. If they do, I'll be happy to attend.

V. Suggestions for improvements to be made/consider for future activities

There are certain crucial elements that aren't given enough emphasis; hopefully, they'll mention them again or add them later. They should try learning about 3D Texturing, 3D Animation, and free hand animation. But Overall, Due to Mr. Gel's excellent delivery of the 3D Concepts and Live Modeling, this webinar was a resounding success for me. The speaker is actually modeling a human figure in 3D step-by-step using Blender.
