Webinar Title: “Intro to 3D Animation & Career Overview”

I. Details of the event/activity

Our team, Studio Pyros, Organized the seminar "Intro to 3D Animation & Career Overview," which took place on December 10, 2022, at the Gordon College Function Hall. Mr. Jelson Ly M. Martin, our special guest speaker, is a design leader and animator for the Hokei Subic Corporation. His interest in traditional drawing art inspired him to enter this field.

II. Reflections on the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings)

The students at Gordon College CCS was awed by Mr. Jelson's work of 3D models and animation, and so were we the organizer. Mr. Jelson began by introducing himself and then showed the students of Gordon College CCS some of his works. After that, Mr. Jelson walked us through the principles of 3D models.

After presenting his work to the class, Mr. Jelson talked to us about his background as a 3D animator. He explained that before becoming an animator, he was a traditional artist who gained clients by sketching portraits of them. However, after the pandemic hit our nation, Mr. Jelson had hardly any clients. He struggled to make a living off of sketches, so he posted his work on social media. As a result of this, the boss of Hokei Subic Corp., a Taiwanese, messaged him and asked him to join his company. Mr. Jelson then took classes to learn how to make 3D models and animation, which launched his career as a 3D animator.

III.  Reflections on possibilities on implementing some of the webinar input on a practical level (practical application of learnings)

As one of the organizers of this seminar, all I can say is that it's difficult to put together a seminar. At first, we had trouble attracting attendees because some students were preoccupied with their projects or had other obligations. However, we are grateful to the faculty and instructors who helped us by encouraging their students to attend our seminar, as a result of which we attracted the desired number of attendees.

IV. Positive feedback (on the event organization)

I appreciate Mr. Jelson Ly Martin's ability to entertain the audience and for being a wonderful speaker for a first-timer. I hope to learn more about 3D animation from him in the future as well as from other work he performs for his company, Hokei Subic Corporation.

V. Suggestions for improvements to be made/consider for future activities

I believe the seminar went well, despite the fact that the topic moved along too quickly. Some students arrived late for the seminar due to other commitments, but some still showed up as it was about to close and continued to participate. The seminar we organized as a whole was a success.
